WXTU/AMP Radio The Beginning

Hi guys!! I'm Erin and this is my internship blog!

I am currently interning at 92.5 WXTU and 96.5 AMP radio, two very popular radio stations in Philadelphia.

I was hired as apart of the promotions team, and I am responsible, alongside 7 others for the following jobs.

On Site promotions
Off Site promotions
Sales/Marketing

My first day was on May 13th. I arrived at the station, to meet my other interns and the rest of my staff, and to complete the process so I could officially start. I then volunteered myself to stay after for a while to help get some things ready for the 31st Anniversary Show, which happened yesterday I'll talk about that later.

On the 13th I also got my first schedule, I couldn't find my name at first so I figured 'oh well maybe next week' when then looked a little harder and saw that my first ever shift with them would be working the Brad Paisley concert!!! I was so pumped, but also a little nervous.

On the day of the show we got to the station and headed down to the venue when we  immediately started setting up. After set up, I  got to go into the parking lot and interact with some fans, and take their pictures using our promo signs, that was definitely an interesting and fun experience!!!

After I was done in the parking lot I got to go into the tent and work a contest that was going on to win some meet and greets for the different artists playing the show, it was so fun talking to the fans and watching their reactions when they won! They were all so grateful, it was wonderful.

Once the contest drawings ended, I got to go take pictures of the fans inside with those signs I mentioned earlier, and people love having their pictures taken! Once that was done, we broke down our tent and then I was given a ticket to watch the concert from the Pit! Which was amazing! I was on picture duty so it was my job to take tons of pictures of the show!

After Brad, I didn't have any events until the following week. But I had my first promo day. Promo day is in the office, and that is where we assist our other staff members in their daily activities, such as getting things ready for shows, or other events that we are having.

After my first promo day and I got my new schedule, I was scheduled to go on ticket runs! Ticket runs are an annual event in which listeners and fans come out to different events and try and win tickets for our annual Anniversary Show.

How ticket runs work is that each individual is given a raffle ticket, if we draw their number, they pick a ball out of the tumblr raffle box, the color of the ball determines what seats they get!

These may have been my favorite events I got to work so far, like any other event it was great interacting with listeners and fans and making them happy!

Once the ticket runs ended for good, it was time for the 31st Anniversary show!

This years performers included Darius Rucker, Brett Eldredge, Kelsea Ballerini, Drake White, and Brothers Osborne, and A Thousand Horses. It was a great show!

Anyways, we all arrived at the venue at around 8 a.m. and got right to work, we were all assigned to different tasks though out the day, for the most part I was bannering all day, which consisted of putting up our banners all over the venue, and making them look presentable. Once that was over, I got to go to the Comcast tent and work with them, they were promoting their new products that I got to learn about and that was pretty cool! And I was taking raffle entries for fans to win an autographed guitar signed by artists at the show. When I was done with Comcast, I got to go to the ACME tent, where they were giving away free samples of products and free t-shirts if you showed us a ACME receipt.

It was really awesome to be able to work alongside other companies and organizations, I even got to network a bit and make a few connections with people in the industry.

Once I was done that I got to head up to lawn seating and upgrade some lucky listeners and fans into better seats, which was also really fun, their reactions to being upgraded to better seats made the whole entire day of hard work worth it.

After that, I was done for the day and got tickets to go watch the rest of the show, which was incredible.

I have learned a lot in the past three weeks, things like:
  •  Different aspects of marketing and promotions
  • How important it is to maintain a good image for the company you are representing.
  • How to network
  • How to have fun, while still successfully doing your job!
I also learned that I definitely want to work in the field of event planning and promotions when I am done with school!

So much has happened in the past three weeks, I had to share all of it!

So excited for the rest of the summer!

I added some pictures I took at the Brad Paisley Concert and The Anniversary Show!

  1. Let me start off by saying how extremely jealous I am of you! I wish I could go see concerts and meet all the amazing people you are bound to come across. I know you have a huge passion for music so this is an amazing opportunity for you. You seem to be fitting in and making friends by your pictures. Keep up the great work, Erin! Make sure to get me a meet and greet with Luke Bryan one day ;)
